About NCPC

The North Carolina Preservation Consortium (NCPC) is a 501C3 non-profit organization founded in 1989 to promote the preservation of cultural, educational, research, and historic collections in our state's libraries, archives, museums, historic sites, record centers, and document depositories. NCPC also informs the general public about preservation to safeguard private collections and family treasures. Our preservation mission addresses the proper care and handling of materials; storage and environmental control; disaster preparedness and recovery; the repair, reformatting, and conservation of damaged items; and collection security. NCPC supports the preservation of information content and the medium as artifact, in new and traditional formats for present and future generations.

The consortium's preservation programs are made possible by the generous financial support of our institutional members, individual members, and corporate sponsors. Fees for the Annual Conference and workshops cover some event expenses. Grants and philanthropy also supplement the NCPC budget.

Leadership for NCPC is provided by volunteers who serve on the Board of Directors, committees, and task forces. Governance for NCPC is documented in the consortium's Bylaws and Articles of Incorporation. Operational information is available in our Strategic Plan, Executive Reports, Minutes of the Board of Directors, and Policy & Procedure Manual.

NCPC offers free preservation information and consultations via phone or email with referrals to respected experts in the field. Resources are also available on our web site with links to established preservation organizations and institutions. NCPC provides preservation speakers for classes, meetings, workshops, conferences, retreats, and other events. The consortium also distributes preservation News and announcements regarding disaster planning, education and training, grants, and preservation projects.
